Most of us don’t consciously choose who we become. Purpose begins the moment we stop drifting and start deciding.

I recently read a line that stopped me in my tracks:
“I don’t remember deciding to be this version of myself.”

And isn’t that true for so many of us?
Most of us don’t consciously choose who we become. We drift. Slowly. Quietly. Almost invisibly. One small compromise at a time. One moment of keeping the peace. One decision not to speak up. One choice to shrink just a little so we can belong, be accepted, avoid conflict, avoid rejection.
None of it feels big in the moment.

But over time, those small choices shape a version of ourselves we never intentionally designed.
Not necessarily a bad version.
Just… not fully ours.

At Fenix, I see this often. Men who have learned to carry their weight silently. Men who became who they needed to be to survive, to provide, to be accepted. Men who kept the peace so well that they lost pieces of themselves in the process. Somewhere along the way, parts of their story were placed quietly on a shelf. Still there. Just untouched.

Then one day, a thought arrives:
How did I get here?
Did I choose this?
And if not… who do I actually want to be?

The writer who shared that line chose a simple resolution:
“To be... with purpose.”

I find that so beautiful. And so powerful.
Because purpose is the opposite of drifting.

Purpose is choosing.
Choosing who you are.
Choosing what you stand for.
Choosing what stays.
Choosing what no longer serves you.
Choosing your next step, even if it’s small.

As we step into the Lunar New Year, we step into a season traditionally marked by renewal, fresh cycles, and conscious intention. It is a time of clearing space, settling debts, sweeping out what is old, and preparing the ground for what is coming.

And this year carries the spirit of the Fire Horse. Bold. Fast. Passionate. Unapologetically forward moving. Fire does not crawl. It rises. It consumes what cannot withstand it. It clears the field so something stronger can grow.

But here is the truth. You cannot run with a horse if you are dragging yesterday behind you.

If we want to keep up with that pace, we must be willing to shed old skins. To lay down habits that shrink us. To release identities that were built only to keep others comfortable. To let go of relationships, expectations, or inner narratives that no longer align with who we are becoming.

This is not reckless burning.
It is intentional clearing.

This is the heart of the Fenix journey. Not fixing broken men. Not forcing transformation. But creating space to remember who you are beneath the armour. On a mountain trail. On a massage table. In a quiet conversation. In the company of other men walking their own path. One breath. One step. One honest moment at a time.

When we live with purpose, we stop giving ourselves away in quiet, unnoticed ways. We stop bending purely to keep others comfortable. We start honouring our own truth. Our needs. Our boundaries. Our dreams. Our pace.

And slowly, something shifts.
Confidence grows.
Resentment fades.
Energy returns.
A sense of inner strength awakens.

Not because life becomes easy.
But because life becomes aligned.

So as this new cycle begins, perhaps the invitation is simple:
Don’t drift.
Decide.

Decide what version of you gets to exist in this next chapter.
Decide what you are no longer willing to carry.
Decide what you will stand for.
Decide to live with purpose.

Because when a man chooses himself on purpose, he becomes a force to be reckoned with.

If you shed what no longer serves you and rise with the fire, who would you become?
