You can drift miles away from your true self without ever leaving your city, your job, or your circle. Sometimes, the greatest journey is the one that brings you back to who you were before the world told you who to be.

It’s a strange thing, isn’t it? To look up one day and feel lost, but you haven’t even moved. You’re still in the same town. You still see the same people. You still smile for the same photos. But something’s shifted. You’ve drifted. Quietly. Slowly. Almost invisibly. Not across oceans or borders, but away from yourself.

From the moment we can talk, we’re handed a script.
“Dream big,” they say — But only certain dreams.
“Be yourself,” they add — As long as “yourself” fits the mould.

So we learn early to reach for things that look shiny on paper: The right career. The perfect partner. The house, the car, the curated life that looks good on someone else’s highlight reel. And we chase it. Not because we’re shallow, but because we’ve been taught that’s what success looks like.

Somewhere along the way, we start shaping ourselves to fit the room. We downplay our quirks. Tuck away our true voice. We surround ourselves with people we think we should be around, just to feel like we’ve “made it.” And when we finally arrive at the destination we’ve been sprinting toward? It still doesn’t feel like home.

That’s the thing about drifting: it’s quiet. You don’t notice it until you look around and realise you’ve built a life that doesn’t feel like yours. And by then, the map is blurred. The compass you once carried, your true north, is somewhere beneath the noise of expectations, achievements, and empty applause.
But here’s the thing, my friend: You don’t need to stay lost. And you don’t need anyone’s permission to come back home to yourself. Take a breath. Now ask yourself: What actually makes me happy? This success I’m chasing, is it even mine? Or is it someone else’s idea of a “life well lived” that I’ve been trying to squeeze into?

Truth is, you were never meant to fit into someone else’s mould. You were made to shape your own. Being true to yourself might shake the waters. It might stir discomfort in the people around you; especially those who benefitted from your silence, your people-pleasing, or your polished mask.
But that’s okay.
Let it stir.
Let it unsettle.
Let it awaken.
Because you don’t owe the world a version of you that isn’t honest.

Coming home to yourself isn’t always a smooth path. Sometimes it means rebuilding. Sometimes it means walking away. Sometimes it just means sitting still long enough to listen to your own voice again.

But it’s worth it. Every small step. Every brave “no.” Every quiet “yes” to what truly matters. You don’t need to go anywhere to start living your life again. You just need to return. To yourself.

So, what would happen if you stopped chasing what you “should” be… and started honouring who you really are?
